Hungarian-born George Pal was an animator, film producer and director who specialized in fantasy and science-fiction films. Pal first rose to fame in the 1930s as the creator of the Puppetoons (aka Pal-Doll technique), a type of stop motion puppet animation. He used the technique in a series of popular short films. After World War II, Pal decided to move into live-action movies.
